NHS Lothian are consulting on proposals to augment maternity services in Lothian. They plan to build an additional midwife-led unit beside the Simpson Centre for Reproductive Health at the New Royal Infirmary and improve facilities at St John's in Livingston. They also aim to: increase the number of staff in maternity services; reduce smoking and the use of alcohol and drugs in pregnancy; encourage breastfeeding; and promote home births.
Your views are invited by 30 April 2009. Contact details are included in a brief guide to the proposals (PDF) available in the strategy section of the NHS Lothian web site.
