The Tearfund Christmas Tour is coming to St Catherine’s Argyle on the 3rd of Dec at 7:30pm

The Tearfund Christmas Tour is coming to St Catherine’s Argyle on the 3rd of Dec at 7:30pm (after the community tree lighting).

Tearfund has teamed up with some of Scotland’s finest Christian musicians to celebrate Christmas 2016 with you in style. Singer-songwriters Yvonne Lyon, David Lyon and Allan McKinlay are joined by singer and musician Ellyn Oliver.

Each performance will help to raise money for Tearfund's partners, bringing hope to poor communities throughout the world. It’s a great way to get Christmas 2016 started.

Tickets normally cost £6.  However, the church would love to make members of our community particularly welcome so they have set aside a quota of free and half price tickets. Please get in touch with the Church office (0131 667 7220) to book some of these.

How to recycle your Christmas tree

Cameron Rose has shared the following useful information on recycling Christmas trees on his blog:

  • If you have a brown bin please cut up your tree after removing the base and decorations, then place it inside your brown bin and out on the normal day by 6am.
  • If you live in a street with shared recycling and waste bins, leave the tree on the pavement outside your property. Collections will take place on the days shown in this link (South: Thursday 7 January, Thursday 14 January, Thursday 21 January).

Festive rubbish and recycling collections

Christmas and New Year bin collections

Rubbish and recycling collections due on Thursday 25 December will be collected on Saturday the 27 December.

Rubbish and recycling collections due on Thursday 1 January will be collected on Saturday 3 January.

If your bin or boxes are not collected, please leave it out until we collect it. There are no changes to pickups on Friday 26 December and Friday 2 January. Please make sure bins and boxes are out by 6am.

Remember you can recycle a wide range of items over the Christmas season includingwrapping paper, Christmas trees, bottles and food waste.  Check the what goes in what bin page to find out more.

Christmas Tree Recycling

You can recycle real Christmas trees through the garden waste service. Place your tree at the kerbside, next to your brown bin by 6am on your garden waste pick up day. Bases should be removed and trees over 6ft tall should be cut it in half.

You can also take Christmas trees to any of the Community Recycling Centres. The sites will be closed 25, 26 December and 1, 2 January.

If you live in a communal bin area, just leave your tree beside the nearest shared bin on one of the dates below. They will be turned into compost and used in parks and gardens.
South- Thursday 8, 15, 22 January

If you need to check which neighbourhood you live in, please enter your postcode on our online map.

2015 Calendars

There are no changes to the 2015 pickups. Your new bin calendars will be on our bin collection day page at the end of December or you can order a copy by contacting us from the 15 December 2014.

Changes to bin days over the festive season from Wednesday 25 December 2013 to Tuesday 7 January 2014

Please note that special arrangements are in place for collection of refuse and recycling over Christmas and the New Year.

Green, brown and food waste bins and red and blue box collections
Bins will not be collected on 25 December and 1 January but will instead be picked up on Saturday 28 December and Saturday 4 January respectively.

If the Council don’t pick up the bin on the day listed above, they are asking residents to leave it out until we collect it.

Please note that unlike previous years collections that fall on Boxing Day 26 December and Thursday 2 January will happen as normal. Residents should ensure that their bins are out by 6am on the collection day.

Christmas tree recycling
Christmas trees can be recycled at any of the three Community Recycling Centres, which will be open throughout the festive period (except for 25 & 26 Dec and 1 & 2 January)

The Council will also be providing a kerbside Christmas Tree recycling collectionIf residents have a brown bin or live in a brown bin area, they are being asked to place their tree at the kerbside, next to the brown bin, by 6am on the next garden waste day.

To enable trees to be recycled residents are reminded to:
·         Remove all decorations from the Christmas tree
·         If the tree is 6ft tall or more, please cut it in half
·         Do not place trees in plastic bags, as this means we cannot recycle it
·         Remove any tree stands

Trees will also be collected from communal bin areas during January. Residents can go to www.edinburgh.gov.uk/recycle for more details.

2014 collection calendars
There are no changes to collection days for 2014. Residents can download their collection calendars at www.edinburgh.gov.uk/recycle or call 0131 529 3030 for a copy.
