Curriculum for excellent teeth - recipe book from James Gillespie's Primary

Young chefs at James Gillespie's Primary launched a recipe book today aimed at improving dental health and diet and every P6 pupil across Edinburgh and the Lothians will receive a copy. The year long project between the school, NHS Lothian and Scotmid Co-operative was hailed by City of Edinburgh Council as a perfect example of Curriculum for Excellence in action.

Pupils have been involved in the production of the Scotmid funded Healthy Smiles Cookbook at every stage of its development, from the creation of recipes through to design, sponsorship, distribution and promotion. Teachers have used the project to help pupils learn across a range of subjects including art, IT, design, maths and English.

Delivering Capital Growth: from green belt to wedges?

A draft strategy, Delivering Capital Growth, has been published for the continued physical renewal and growth of Edinburgh. The strategy outlines the steps the City of Edinburgh Council are taking now, and those they need to take in the future, to ensure Edinburgh remains an attractive place to live, work, study and invest.

The draft strategy is out for consultation until 25 June. The Council is seeking your views on the contents of the strategy and the action plan.

One concerning suggestion is that Edinburgh's green belt may be converted into an interrupted set of green 'wedges'. We will discuss this and other aspects of the document at the MSCC AGM next week (We 9 Jun at 19:00).
